In 2009, we decided to read through the Bible in one year. We would have a big celebration at the end of the year to mark the accomplishment. I've read through the Bible in a year. It requires alot of daily reading.
My family did well and finished on schedule. I did not. But we are reading the New Testament through 4 times in 2010. We'll see how I do this year.
My family was gracious enough to let me party with them in celebration of the accomplishment!
We went out to eat and then decided to take in a movie.
The Princess and the Frog.
I didn't research this movie. Just thought about the fairy tales that included princess' and frogs and thought it would be harmless.
I'm going to give you my complete take on the movie and then you can decide from there.
This is CLEARLY not a children's movie.
It starts out as very encouraging, to work hard to make your dreams come true. Set in New Orleans, Louisiana in the '40's, a young girl has a desire to own her own fancy, Cajun style restaurant. She works hard, just like her daddy taught her and saves every penny she has to purchase the place her daddy wanted.
I thought I was getting into a sweet story about a wealthy prince who sweeps in to make all her dreams come true and then the dark side of the movie is exposed. I had no idea, this movie would be so demonic.
The history of the Bayou and New Orleans is steeped in voodoo and black magic. The movie dips heavy into the demonic side with the Shadow Man and the many demons that help him accomplish his goal of destroying the prince so that he can pay back his debt to the Ruler of Black Magic, the giant mask. Complete with beady red eyes, monstrous sounds, and evil shadows lurking about.
Fortunately, my five year olds, were not interested in the movie. Wiggling, and talking, and wanting a drink, and needing to go to the bathroom, and then they were hot.
However, the entire time I was watching this movie, I prayed, "Lord, use this movie for your good. Give us the words to teach our children about the very real demonic realm and help them to understand that even an innocent dabble into the "games" of voodoo can be detrimental to their spiritual walk."
I left that movie with an overwhelming need to pray the blood of Jesus over all of us. We stopped the van right in the middle of the road. Didn't let anything keep us from it.
Once again, Walt Disney has used their power through the movie industry to smack us right in the face with evil.
Agree or disagree. It doesn't matter. If you are a Christian, you either follow God or you don't. This movie does not in any way, shape or form, glorify God.
Revelations 3:14-16 To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth!
Either get Hot for God, or turn it off all together.
Blessing~

Awesome post!! WOW--I did not know that was how the Princess and the Frog played out....
Thanks for sharing!
Happy New Year!!
I heard a long time ago that Walt Disney was very into that sort of thing...at first I thought it's just make believe and fun...but taking your eyes off God is a dangerous thing in this world and for some, one little distraction can take them down a path they never would have chosen. I know for a fact that I have to be VERY careful what I put before me as I can easily get distracted and before I know it I am so far gone, I can't see where I should have been and it akes awhile to get back on track.
Glad your kids weren't interested and were fidgity!!
My Mom and Dad took the family to see this the other night and came home feeling the exact same way! My Mom said there was more demonic presence in that movie than any she'd seen. Thank you for posting this, may God open the ears and hearts of His people to see these things as very real.
Whoa baby -- good to know that's what it's about! You know, when I first heard something about how the story has the girl being changed into a frog -- instead of the traditional story -- I thought "couldn't they just make a good movie or leave well enough alone?!!" But I had no idea it got dark like that. Good to know, thank you for sharing!!
I have always thought that Disney movies had some hidden meanings. And the more "kid" movies I watch I think that the movie makers try to get the movie to be funny for adults and for kids. Well, just keep it clean and then every one will like it.
And from the previews I didn't even THINK that movie was like that!
GOOD POST SISTER! I have not seen nor even heard of the movie...mainly because my boys would cry if I took them to a Princess movie {smile} but knowing what I know now...I'll share with my dear friends who have girls that would be interested in this. Why is it they have to do that? They have made some really wonderful movies and some Not so wonderful. Praise God you know to be HOT for GOD! Love ya!
p.s. good idea for the new testament reading...I just started in John and am Loving it. I think I'll make it a goal to read the New Testament and study it in depth this year.
Paula, great post! It's coming closer and closer to our everyday (sheltered) lives. DH and I don't go see movies unless we check them out. They are too dad gum expensive to go to and walk out of!
Great post on the movie Paula! It is sad that they used this movie with an ugly agenda! Praise God for your clear vision through the movie and for passing it on!
RE: Princess & the Frog. It was really evil in parts....but, having a little girl into the princess theme right now....they are ALL pretty much contain a lot of dark magic. Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Snow White, etc. I think we see Cinderella and fairy godmother as something sweet, but it is just as dark...all female winged creatures, fairies or "angels" represent Lilith. My kids watch a lot of the shows, but if you look close enough, one may be hard pressed to finy anything untouched by evil.
Thanks for the post...how strange our culture is getting.
I agree Kim. There is little out there, Princess related, that does not have some form of witchcraft or black magic. I was just really amazed at how deep and dark this movie was. You are correct also, little female fairies are just as demonic is black demons with red beady eyes.
I haven't heard of this movie, but thanks for the warning. Good job on reading through in a year Yaussi family! I don't know how many times I have started the year long reading and bailed out by Deuteronomy.
WOW thanks for being so bold as to expose this in the movie. me and my husband also have the want to read the bible through in a year together. We have prayed daily for the LORD to remind us to be faithfull in that. We truly want to devote our lives to him and his wants and not the wants of the world. May the LORD bless you in 2010.
oh and screenit.com is a great website for content. It may not have the christian views, but it will tell you EVERYTHING...how many swear words and which ones, nudity and what it is all in detail. When you pull the website up just go to very bottom and hit no thanks if you don't want to join and you can still look at the pages. Great resource!
Great post!! I used to love Walt Disney anything as a kid. When did they start getting into the occult? I know the movie Fantasia was....well embarrassing with bare breasts and sorcery, but beyond that I don't remember.
You Go Girl!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for this, we had one kid wanting to go see it, DD went and she didn't like it at all. Just thought it was another goofy animated cartoon. Should have known. We have been there and done that with all the Walt Disney movies, or most. Many of them if not most have a very dark side.I will never forget the day I burned Aladdin in the burn barrel.
Thank you again for your candid review. It is much appreciated.

Was blog hopping again and found your blog..
I was wondering about this movie.. I saw the previews and thought hmm I knew that there was a lot of Voodoo and things like that in New Orleans. I was wondering how it played out in the movie. We dont watch movies in the theater to expensive. I use to laugh some of this stuff off. But when I saw what my kids imitate I quit laughing..
Well I had no intentions of seeing it, as my hubby would in no shape or form go see something like that. But thank you for the heads up!
And I have to say YOU GO GIRL! There are so many people who turn a blind eye, and become more and more numb to the things in movies. It's all just for entertainment ya know.
Funny thing, I heard a Pastor say how wonderful this movie was.
BTW, Mrs. Y, I tagged you for some bloggie awards!! :)
Our pastor recommended Plugged In Online (pluggegin.com) for reviewing movies. It's pretty good.
Wow, thanks so much for this. My sis in law was going to take my daughter. This is a good lesson for me!
