What Happened?

I'm new to this "Keeping Chickens" thing . . .

Ya think one egg looks like any other egg . . .

Right?

Then you find something that looks like this . . .

Ya have to rub your eyes, make sure you're seeing it right. . .

And wonder . . . What Happened?

Which-ever hen laid this must have sneezed, oops, out came one before it was ready! If ya have youngins you know what that's like! hahaha

We decided to crack it open and SURE ENOUGH . . . a teeny-tiny little egg yoke. I felt kinda bad! I mean, it's just a baby egg!

Then I washed it down the drain and cracked about 10 big ones in a pan for breakfast!

The ladies are being good to me!

Blessing~

Frivolous Friday!

Can anyone say "HAWT!"

Have a great weekend, Friends!

***CAUTION*** This Post Has a Gore Score!

PROCESSING BEEF -

Bo and I took two steers to Family Tree Meats for processing. We've only seen them cutting steaks, grinding hamburger, wrapping meat, etc. We've never had the opportunity to see them take the steer from live weight to hanging weight.

STOP RIGHT NOW IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT FAINT, PUKE, ETC.

GRAPHIC PICTURES!!

I'M TELLIN YA THE TRUTH! IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE BLOOD OR THE SITE OF A HEADLESS STEER DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!

Family Tree Meats is in the boondocks! No kidding! Google Grenola, KS and then go 3 miles south and you will find them. Great people. Very helpful and eager to teach you about the process.

The process begins with the farmer or rancher fattening up the steer. This is our first real try and we pumped alotta corn into the steers prior to taking them in.

Bo and I were up and hauling them by 7:30am. We arrived at Family Tree Meats, backed the trailer up to the holding pen and unloaded the steers. They can process about 11 steers a day and several hogs. Looked like about six or seven in the pen. The State inspector is there to inspect the liver for absesses or abnormalities. If any are found the liver is discarded. He then inspects the process and the meat, stamps his approval and off it goes to the cooler to hang approximately 14 days prior to processing into the different meat cuts.

The process begins with a 22 caliber that stuns the steer and then the steer is "bled" out. For me this was the worst of the process. Going from life to death.

The head and hooves are removed

Then the hide is removed (I've priced longhorn hide and it is pretty pricey)

They are extremely careful not to puncture any of the intestines, stomach, etc. These are removed in one quick process. Not a good deal if anything is broken open! The buldge in this picture is the all of that. I have a more graphic photo but chose not to post it. But will share if anyone would like to see.

They then hang the carcass and continue to clean away skin, the spinal cord, etc. Once this process is complete, they take this extremely large saw and cut the carcass in half. Each half is weighed, tagged, and placed in the cooler for the appropriate amount of time.

This is the heart. The inspector looks at the heart as well.

This entire process took about 20 minutes. I asked the men working if they ever felt sick during the process and they responded "Only if there is an absess, something inside that is not right. Most of the time its a good, healthy beef."

I've only just started to feel a little queezy as I have looked at these pictures quite a bit. But to be able to watch, see exactly what I am getting, and know that I raised this to feed my family has been a good thing for me today.

God is good, and will supply all our needs!

Blessings~

Thank Goodness for Comment Moderation!

Thought you might like to see some of the garbage comments that have been left on my blog on posts four months or older!

I have "comments moderation" in place to keep these nutballs at bay but it's still a little freaky to think they are scrolling through my blog.

With that being said, I may decide to go private. If I do, I will send all of my followers, my new information. I don't want to lose a one of ya, but I certainly don't want some phycho checking out my kids on-line.

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.

Now for the important stuff! I heard a funny noise and went to check it out! The K's were playing circus!

They had a piece of cardboard propped up against a box and were throwing knives at it! Fortunately they were steak knives and even more fortunate is that they didn't have anyone tied up to the box!!

May you dodge every knife thrown and never quit clowning around!

Blessings~

Glimpse of Heaven

It rained, and rained, and rained yesterday! Then right around 6:15pm, the sun came out! I stepped out my back door to this!

I was reminded on a very dreary day, that our Father in heaven knows exactly what He's doing!

I hope your week is glorious! Like this rainbow!

My 5 Ct. Valentine Gift

Hope ya'll had a wonderful Valentine weekend! I did! Yep, yes sirree! My husband bought me a bright, shiney, really big 5 Ct. washing machine! And I am OVERJOYED! You see, my Maytag Neptune sounded like a jet airplane every time it went into the spin cycle and I never knew if it was going to dump the entire tub of water on my floor.

So, DH started doing some serious washer shopping. Went on-line, read consumer reports, checked prices . . . and this is what we got . . .

A Whirlpool Cabrio! I swore I would never buy a front load again. And I didn't. This is probably the only thing my gal-pal, Les, and I disagree on! She loves her front load and I hated mine! BUT . . .I can not believe how much laundry I can do at one time. I can wass at least 15 towels! And it spins the buggers so fast, they are almost dry when I take them out! AND I don't even hear it! Well . . . I do a little but at least I can talk on the phone in the back bedroom and people can hear me now!

Now on to the really great Valentine's present! The men of the Broken Y went teamroping on Sunday. Bo, my 11 year old son roped in the #8. If you aren't familiar with the number format for teamroping, every teamroper that wants to rope at USTRC Sanctioned events has to be classified by a number. Since Bo just started, he's a 2. His dad is a #5, the pro's are usually around a 9 and the highest being 10. So Bo roped in a #8 roping and both partners have to equal 8 or less.

He and one partner came back 6th fastest team in the short go - and ended up winning the whole shabang! Pocketed a wad of cash, a box of chocolates and a sweatshirt that said champion down the arm. Not bad for a kid roping with a bunch of grown men!

Now . . . the husband roped in the #10 - so both partners have to equal ten or less. He had three call backs to the short go - 12th, 8th, and 6th fastest teams back. He finished 3rd in that roping ...WE WERE EXCITED! He pocketed some moolaw also and a good day was had by all!!

It's been a good weekend. Bailey and I both made really good runs on Friday but were just out of the money, then the men won on Sunday, and I'm washing clothes in my new washing machine!

OH, by the way - Dear, sweet hubbie turned 42 on Monday! We had to celebrate that as well. AND as usual, I have a fancy new camcorder/camera combo and have no pictures!

Have a wonderful week, friends. I'm slowly getting caught back up. You can catch me on facebook (Paula Bailey Yaussi) as well.

Remember, the magnificient Creator of the universe is waiting for your call!

Blessings~
P.
