Where I Come From . . .

Burden, Kansas - population at the time was around 800 people.

This is the house I grew up in. If you pull the carpet up in the corner of the living room, you'll find roads drawn with crayon. My hand prints are in the concrete patio out back.

I've been driving the country-side lately and didn't realize how beautiful my "home" was until I looked at it from grown up eyes.

This area in South East Kansas is the beginning of the Flint Hills.

Never realized how "rolling" it was until I came back home.

Burning off prairie grass is an important step in maintaining the quality of the range land. The early April air, in Kansas, is scented with smoke and the view is hazey. But once all the burning is complete, the land becomes lush and green.

You can see for miles . . .

Here is a sneak peak at "Where I Come From."

Blessings~

I LOVE it out there!!! I never understand why people always say "Kansas is SO flat"! I'm practically all hills out here!! Beautiful country!

Sounds like the Kenny Chesney song! I'm not a big fan of him but man he can sing... People say the same thing about where I live, that it's flat, when in reality it's not flat at all! Just try finding stray cattle lol

Loved the tour--thanks for sharing. Long ago we used to custom combine in KS.... :)

...it's cornbread and biscuits. Now I'll be humming Alan Jackson's song the rest of the day! I love the rolling hills...went through there a few years ago for a bull sale. Really pretty country.

I have always been a city girl. After being out in the country for the past 11 years, I can't imagine going back. God sure made it beautiful around here, even with the poison ivy greening up!!
