Balling Babies

Our boy, Bo has taken up tie down calf roping. Here he is typing down a calf. He'll look at this picture and point out all that he's done incorrectly. I look at the picture and think, WOW!

This was his first Tie Down Calf Roping competition. The Jr. Lewis Competition of Champions - if you are familiar with the sport, you know that Jr. Lewis comes from the South Hutchinson area and is known for training calf horses, etc. Bo finished 2nd in his age division and won this rope can and some moolaa!

So, Bo decided he was going to take this event seriously and called his Uncle David, who has an abundance of calves. Uncle David owns LaPar Dairy and decided just for Bo, he'd sell some of his calves. They wheeled and dealed, haggled and negotiated but ended up with a fair deal! Bo came home with 8 Holstein calves to practice on.

One thing we found to be a disadvantage at home was how long the legs are on holsteins, but he kept working till he could flank them all. And when he roped his first calf in competion later, he flanked it with no problem! We've had fun learning the art of tie down calf roping.

And the balling babies have settled in to their routine, get fed, get flanked, get fed, get roped, get fed, get flanked.

Blessings~

Go Bo! How cool is that? Tell him to find a big ranch long about May. They'll have more calves to flank than he'll want to flank! Our boy is 6'4, 200#. Sure did miss him during branding this year. Don't think he'll be using those skills at Marine Boot Camp. You'll have a busy summer, but this is the good stuff! We'll be cheering him on from NM!
